Elfun Medical Benefits Plan
Eligibility
Elfun members are eligible to participate in Elfun Senior Medical Benefit Plan, if they are:
- An Elfun member (regular or senior) as of July 1, 2005. Eligibility is not contingent on the payment of future dues, and you do not be need to be aged 65 on July 1st, 2005. Eligibility was frozen on that date to coincide with the elimination of dues and other eligibility requirements to become an Elfun member.
- Age 65 or older and participating in Medicare Parts A and B;
- Eligible for and participate in the GE Medical Care Plan for Pensioners and GE Pensioners Prescription Drug Plan. (Please note - eligibility for these GE retiree medical plans is limited to those covered under core GE Benefits);
- A Senior Elfun member who was a dues-paying Regular Elfun member for at least the last three years BEFORE retirement from the Company.
Certain employees in divested businesses:
- Certain long-service GE employees who were Elfun members when transferred to a successor employer are eligible to rejoin Elfun after retirement from the successor. If they are also eligible for and choose to participate in GE's Medicare Benefit plans, they may also purchase coverage under the Elfun Senior Medical Benefits Plan.
Coverage for your spouse:
- The spouse of an Elfun member who is eligible for the Elfun Senior Medical Benefits Plan may purchase coverage when he/she turns 65 as well.
